Bon voyage book list

Here’s a little glimpse at what’s currently on my book shelf, soon-to-be book bag. Holiday reading is the absolute best and although a tablet would be much more practical to travel with, I love the texture of pages too much to trade it in for my kindle.

Persuasion by Jane Austen

I primarily chose this novel for nostalgic and sentimental reasons. The majority of the story takes place in the city of Bath where we’ll be staying for a few days. The nerd in me couldn’t help but go with reading a novel set in the place I’ll be vacationing by one of my all-time favorite authors. Did I mention The Jane Austen Centre is located in Bath? Just thinking about it makes me giddy!

My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier

This is one from my 2016 Reading Challenge list. It’s from the category “A book you’ve read at least once.” I remember all the feelings I had while reading this for the first time a few years ago. Du Maurier is a genius at creating suspense and doubt around characters. You never know who to believe or trust. There is a bit of traveling that takes place in the novel and it’s a page turner which necessary while flying and waiting in airports.

Love and Other Ways of Dying by Michael Paterniti

I’m currently reading this for my book club. Whether you’re a fan of nonfiction essays or not, there will be something in this collection for you. I’ve only read the first handful of essays and I have never been more intrigued or captivated by nonfiction before. Paterniti’s sentences are gorgeous to read and each essay reveals something about human nature in a really light way.

What do you like to read while on vacation and traveling? I have been storing of Serial podcasts to listen to as well. Do you prefer podcasts or books? Au revoir, dear friends.
