#4. Explore somewhere in nature you’ve never been

For how many years did I wander slowly throughout the forest. What wonder and glory I would have missed had I ever been in a hurry! (Mary Oliver)

Last summer when we moved we received a pamphlet detailing nearby parks and trails. I tucked it away and promised myself we’d explore someday. Well, someday turned into almost one full year later.

It’s so easy to undervalue and diminish the places we live because the everyday demands of live give us tunnel vision and we can drive past the same spot a hundred times without realizing what’s tucked away and around the bend.

The place we explored is 10 minutes from our house and has miles of bike and hiking trails. The birds were singing a thousand songs, the bugs were buzzing around, and sunlight poured through the trees creating lacy patterns on the foot trail.

Flowers were in full bloom and the kids spent ages collecting walking sticks and coaxing bugs to crawl into their hands to take home as pets. There is nothing better for the soul than leaving the phone in the car and walking without a destination.

This year is all about being intentional to do the things that you love, the things that bring peace and restore balance. Maybe walks in the woods aren’t your thing. Maybe it’s epic views or beach waves. Maybe it’s drives through mountains. Whatever it is, explore somewhere in nature new and leave the distractions of life behind to just be with all the sights and sounds of creation stimulating your senses rather than the hum of  technology. It’s so incredibly invigorating.

What have you done off the list? I can’t wait to hear from you!
